Giving Tuesday

Time, Talent, and Treasure

At this time every year, we are accosted by the commercial avalanche that is Black Friday and Cyber Monday shopping. However, we cannot forget another very important day—Giving Tuesday. This year, when you are creating a list of gifts to buy your friends and family make sure to add a special cause to your list for Giving Tuesday.

A non-profit like the Calgary MFRC is dependent on the generosity of others to keep our programs and services running all year long. Sometimes we call upon our community for their special skills or free time, and other times we call on our community for any extra funds with which they can part in the form of a donation. Giving Tuesday is about all three: time, talent, and treasure.

We recognize that this has been a strange year to say the least. Some of us have lost our jobs and some frontline staff have been working more than ever before. Many are feeling the anxiety of not knowing if and when we could be out of a job while others have adapted to working from home saving money on gas, parking, and buying lunches. Every situation is unique.

Because of the limitations on the number of people that we can gather, many of our volunteering positions are on hold. It’s too bad considering that many people would love to be filling their free time with something meaningful to them and our community. We so miss seeing the smiling faces of our eager helpers from the past and look forward to welcoming your special skills again. If you happen to be in the category of people who have spent less over the last nine months and would like to share some of your bounty or know of a business or corporation that is looking for a tax break, please consider the Calgary MFRC for your treasure donations.

You can do so online at this link and feel free to share it widely on social media on December 1st  this Giving Tuesday.
