Pregnant woman fitness

Maternity Wellness Program

The 4 Wing Maternity Wellness Program is an initiative of the PSP Health Promotion Department, PSP Fitness & Sports Department and the MFRC Family Liaison Officer. This Program was created in response to an identified gap in appropriate programming available at the Wing for prenatal and postpartum individuals.

This 8-week program includes three components to adequately address the gap:
  • Fitness
  • Educational sessions
  • Support
The Fitness component will include two weekly fitness classes, appropriate for prenatal and postpartum individuals. One class will be held in-person at the Col J.J. Parr Sports Centre and one will be held virtually via Zoom. These classes will be 45-minutes in length and be facilitated by the PSP Reconditioning Specialist.

Educational Sessions
Educational sessions will be provided in a pre-recorded video format whereby pariticpants will receive the link to a private viewing of the weekly topic to watch on their own schedule. Questions from each session can be sent to the HP Department, who will then request answers from the designated subject matter expert. Sessions will be 30-45 minutes. The educational sessions are provided by Wing and community individuals and organizations, for which we are most appreciative.

Topics include pelvic floor health, mental health, nutrition, sleep, healthy relationships, financial wellness, physical activity and feeding baby.

There may be a few live Quesiton & Answer sessions with subject matter experts.

Support is provided through a bi-weekly Parental Support Group. The Parental Support Group is a peer-led group facilitated by the MFRCS FLO and meets for two hours.

Program Details
Each program session is 8 weeks and the program will run 2-3 times per year. More sessions may be added based on demand.
