Red Cross Swim Lessons

Red Cross Swim Preschool

STARFISH
Babies 4-12 months of age and their caregivers work on getting wet, buoyancy and movement, front and back, vertical position in the water, and shallow water entries and exits. To enter this level, babies must be able to hold their head up.

DUCK
Babies 12-24 months of age and their caregivers work on rhythmic breathing, moving forward and backward, front and back float with recovery, and shallow water entries and exits. Toddlers build confidence while enjoying the water through games, songs and active water play.

SEA TURTLE
Toddlers 24-36 months of age and their caregivers work on submersion, front and back floats, front and back glides, jumping into chest-deep water with assistance, kicking on front, and front swim.This level is the parented level for children ages 24-36 months. All skills in this level are assisted.

SEA OTTER
This is an entry level for children aged 3-5 years. Swimmers work with assistance on front and back floats, front and back glides, kicking on front with a buoyant object, and will be able to swim 1 metre (assisted) upon completion of this level.

SALAMANDER
For children aged 3-5 years who have successfully completed Sea Otter. Swimmers work on improving their front and back floats, and jumping into water unassisted. Kicking is added to the front and back glides. Swimmers will be able to swim 2 metres upon completion of this level.

SUNFISH
Upon completion of Salamander, children aged 3-5 years work on kicking and can preform glides on their front and backs, enter deep water safely, float in deep water, swim with a PFD, and swim 5 metres continuously.

CROCODILE
Upon completion of Sunfish, children aged 3-5 years further develop the front and back glide wih kick, front and back swim, jump into deep water, swim with a PFD in deep water, and swim 10 metres continuously.

WHALE
Upon completion of Crocodile, children aged 3-5 years increase their distance on front and back glide with kick, increase their distance on front and back swim, learn the sitting dive, and will be able to swim 15 metres continuously.

Red Cross Swim Kids

Level 1
This is an entry level for children 5 years and older. Swimmers develop front and back float, front and back glide, flutter kick (assisted), shallow water entries and exits, and swim 5 metres.

Level 2
Upon completion of Swim Kids 1, swimmers learn front and back glides with kick, develop front swim, complete deep water activities, and swim 10 metres continuously.

Level 3
Upon completion of Swim Kids 2, swimmers increase their distance on front and back glide with flutter kick, perform flutter kick unassisted, wear a PFD in deep water, float in deep water, and swim 15 metres continuously.

Level 4
Upon completion of Swim Kids 3, swimmers learn back swim with shoulder roll and front crawl (10m), work on flutter kick on back, perform kneeling dive, introduction to sculling and swim 25 metres continuously.

Level 5
Upon completion of Swim Kids 4, swimmers develop fornt crawl (15m), learn back crawl (15m) and whip kick on back, learn stride dive and treading water, perform head-first sculling on back, and swim 50 metres continuously.

Level 6
Upon completion of Swim Kids 5, swimmers increase their distance on front and back crawl (25m), learn elementary back stroke (15m), learn dolphin kick, tread water in deep water, perform front dive, and swim 75 metres continuously.

Level 7
Upon completion of Swim Kids 6, swimmers increase their distance on front and back crawl (50m), and elementary back stroke (25m), learn front scull, perform whipkick on front and dolphin kick, learn stride entry, and swim 150 metres continuously.

Level 8
Upon completion of Swim Kids 7, swimmers increase their distance on front and back crawl (75m), elementary back stroke (25m), learn breast stroke (15m), learn eggbeater/trad water, perform feet-first surface dive and standing shallow dive, and swim 300 metres continuously.

Level 9
Upon completion of Swim Kids 8, swimmers increase their distance on front and back crawl (100m), elementary back stroke (50m) and breast stroke (25m), learn side stroke kick, perform head-first surface dive, and swim 400 metres continuously.

Level 10
Upon completion of Swim Kids 9, swimmers improve their endurance on front and back crawl (100m), elementary back stroke (50m) and breast stroke (50m), learn side stroke (25m), perform dolphin kick (vertical), learn feet- and head- first surface dives with underwater swim, and swim 500 metres continuously.

Adult Swimming Lessons
Swim Basic 1 is the perfect class for adults who are afraid of the water or are just beginning to learn how to swim. We work on basic swim skills such as floating and breathing and build from there.

Swim Basic 2 is for adult swimmers who already have the basic skills and wish to improve their strokes, techniques and distance.

Diaper policy: All untoilet trainned children must wear 3 layers - swim diaper, plastics pants, and swimsuit.
