Emergency Child Care

The goal of the Emergency Child Care Service is to enhance and support the families by providing immediate, affordable and regulated childcare for members in times of an emergency. 

Emergency Childcare is available to all Regular Force and Primary Reserve on Class B or Class C service and is designed as a back-up for your Family Care Plan. This service is available to families on a 24 hour basis. 

Emergency Child Care is available under the following circumstances:
  • When the CAF Member is employed/deployed away from home and the spouse/caregiver is unavailable due to illness or any other family emergency
  • When the CAF Member is required to report for duty on short notice and the spouse/usual caregiver is unavailable
  • When a single parent or both parents are CAF Members and they are unable to access the regular childcare provider in a deployment/emergency situation
  • When there is an illness of a child that would prevent a parent from accessing regular arrangement for care at a time when the CAF Member's presence at work is critical to the military operation
  • When there is a need for respite childcare due to the total family situation, including the CAF Member's work commitments 
  • When both parents/guardians are CAF Members and when one parent has been already deployed and the other is required with less than 7 days notice to be away from home due to operational demands or extended family emergency
  • When there are other circumstances not covered in the above and childcare is believed to be the solution to the problem
