Other Child Care (H&R MFRC)
The H&R MFRC offers a variety of other child care options for those who are not looking for full-time care.
CASUAL CHILD CARE
Casual Child Care Program (3 months – 6 years) (6+years, based on space availability), is an unlicensed service that has a maximum of 6 children enrolled at one time. Families can register by session, one month in advance, or up to 48 hours before the program. Registration for Casual Child Care can be done online (www.hrmfrc.ca/store) or by calling: 902-427-7788. Payment is required at the time of registration.
Session fees: 3 hours ($15) /child, 3.5 hours ($17.50) /child 4.5 hours ($22.50)/child.
Shearwater Schedule
Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday: 8:30am – 1pm (4.5 hour session)
Thursday & Friday: 12:30 – 4pm (3.5 hour session)
Halifax Schedule
Monday, Tuesday & Thursday: 8am – 11pm (3 hour session)
Program Child Care
Program Child Care, is a provincially exempted service as it is based on the requirement that the parent/guardian remains on site, while the child is enrolled. This child care option is for families attending a program on-site, and only for the duration of the program. Families can register for Program Child Care one month in advance or up to 48 hours prior to the program, at a cost of $3/child or $6/family per session; there is a limit of 12 spaces.
Halifax Schedule
Thursday and Friday: 9 – 11:30am
Shearwater Schedule
Thursday and Friday: 9 – 11:30am
Casual Child Care and Program Related Child Care, due to their specific provincial requirements, must be offered at separate times.
Deployment Respite Child Care
Are you a military family experiencing a deployment? Deployed families may choose to access quality child care in a positive environment on Saturdays from 11am–3pm, at alternating sites (Halifax and Shearwater). Respite child care is a preventative option offered by the H&R MFRC to support a family’s social and mental well-being. Respite child care needs are assessed on a case-by-case basis. To access this service, families are to connect with a member of the Mental Health & Well-Being Team by calling 902-427-7788.
*The Deployment Respite Child Care program operates as an “unlicensed” child care program in accordance with provincial regulations. The registration deadline is the Tuesday prior, by 4pm.
Emergency Child Care
The H&R MFRC, through the Military Family Services Program (MFSP) Emergency Child Care (ECC) Policy supports families by facilitating short-term emergency child care requirements. There is an established national criteria to determine eligibility. Families are encouraged to develop a comprehensive child care plan and in the event this plan fails, families are eligible to access MFS Emergency Child Care. This care is available 24/7 however, it may take several hours to put into place. In discussion with the family, application of resources will be decided on a case by case basis.
