Contest Details

The Contest is organized by the Kingston Military Family Resource Centre (KMFRC).

Artwork submissions will be accepted from February 11 - March 29 at 12:00 midnight.
The contestants must indicate on the Entry Form his/her affiliation with the CAF/DND. Members and their families who are directly associated with the organizing, running, or judging of this contest, are specifically excluded from participating.

Each contestant must submit his/her entries in the appropriate category: 12 years old and under, 13 - 17 years old, 18+ years old.  

The organizing committee reserves the right to refuse an entry, or change its title, if the submission is deemed to be inappropriate for the intended audience of the contest.
  • All entries, without exception, must be submitted as digital files. 
  • Contestants may enter up to 5 entries. Each unique entry can only be submitted once.
  • Entries to the Contest must be the original work of the contestant.
  • The artwork's subject must be UNCLASSIFIED and family friendly.
  • The artwork must be free of marking such as: Copyright, name, dates and times.
  • Each file must be named the same as the artwork Title on the Entry Form. 
  • Artwork file names must use only letters and numbers, NO special characters.
  • To preserve the highest quality graphic files, use the lowest possible amount of compression.
  • Horizontal images must be a minimum of 1800 pixels wide.
  • Vertical images must be a minimum of 1800 pixels tall.
  • Max. 5 MB per submitted piece.
All participants must have Model Release forms signed when the artwork contains “identifiable” people.  A model release is a signed agreement from the subject(s) which states that the artist is authorized to publish his/her/their picture.  A sample model release is available here. A model release is not normally required if the artwork was taken at a Military or public event. The artists’ own model release form will also be accepted.
The artist must keep in mind the possible future requirements for publication.  In those situations where a model release is required and cannot be obtained, the image will not be published.

By submitting entries, the contestant agrees that all submissions can be used without further permission, properly accredited, for, but not limited to:
  • Publication in DND, CAF and CFMWS magazines, posters, calendars, websites and sponsors’ websites approved by the organizing committee;
  • Displayed at various DND locations and;
  • Any other KMFRC promotional material.

The KMFRC shall assume no liability for not receiving your images.

  • 5 finalist pieces from each category will be chosen at the end of March by a panel of judges.
  • The finalist entries will be displayed on Facebook for online public voting and be displayed at the KMFRC on April 18 for offline public voting.
  • The decision of the contest judges and public voting are final.

The winning artwork from each category will be featured on the front cover of the Winter 2019/2020 edition of Garrison Life and displayed in the Kingston Military Family Resource Centre (KMFRC) for 1 year.
The 30 finalist pieces of art will be displayed in Garrison Life.

The winning artwork from each category will be announced at the KMFRC Month of the Military Child event
By entering the contest, Contestants grant permission to the KMFRC to publish his/her name, city, province of residence, photo, or any likeness and details of their prize for advertising or publicity purposes without any additional compensation. Winning Contestants agree to sign a Declaration and Release Form to this effect.
