French as a Second Language

Option 1 (Incremental Learning)

  • French-as-a-Second-Language grammar, reading and writing classes with a qualified teacher.
  • Level 1 (beginner) to Level 10 (advanced) training is provided.
  • The students are given one book per module.
  • Classes are held part-time, twice a week for a total of five hours a week.
  • The session lasts 12 weeks.
  • We offer two sessions a year: September to December and January to April.

Option 2 (Conversation-based Learning)

  • French-as-a-second-language conversation classes with a qualified teacher.
  • The goal of this training is to be able to understand and communicate, so there will be lots of group discussions.
  • The content is adapted to the needs of the group.
  • Classes are held part-time, once a week for 2.5 hours.
  • The session lasts 8 to 12 weeks.
  • We offer this training in all three sessions: fall, winter and summer.
  • Basic knowledge of French as a second language is required in order to take this training.

Option 3 (Intensive Learning)

  • French-as-a-Second-Language classes with a qualified teacher.
  • This training is offered for students at Level 3 or higher and is aimed at faster learning.
  • Classes are held five mornings a week, covering the notions of conversation, grammar, reading and writing.
  • The session lasts 12 weeks.
  • We offer two sessions a year: September to December and January to April.

Option 4 (On-line Learning)

  • For those who are unable to attend classes, we offer the on-line learning program.
  • Frequency of use is checked, as the program must be used at least once a week.
  • We have 18 licences available for a period of one year.
  • There is a waiting list for this program.

Option 5 (Learning with Emploi-Québec)

  • Intensive francization training for the purpose of entering the labour market in the region, offered by Emploi-Québec.
  • There is a mandatory meeting with an agent to determine whether you are eligible.
  • It is possible to receive financial support during the training, in addition to being reimbursed childcare and transportation expenses.
  • The training is given at La Prairie or Brossard.
  • The Employment and Education Co-ordinator can act as your interpreter at your meeting with the agent since Emploi-Québec offers services in French only.
  • The details will be determined following the meetings since each case is different.
