VFP transition programs

These programs and resources are provided by the Military Family Resource Centres (MFRCs) in Canada to CAF members, medically released veterans and their families.

Veteran Family Program Coordinators, who are available in 32 MFRCs, provide information and use their referral experience to assist families seeking support from civilian service providers.


Programs / Transitional Resources

SISIP Financial Planning Workshops
  • Provide targeted financial information;
  • Specific financial workshops for 3B members currently in transition and who have already made the transition.
Veteran Family Journal ​
  • Tool to navigate the system and identify your needs;
  • Includes a long-term family health care plan and various tools and worksheets.
  • COPE (Couples Overcoming PTSD Everyday ) is a group-based, psycho-educational and counselling program for veterans of the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) and their spouse/partner who are struggling with the effects of Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD).
Mental first aid for the veteran community
  • Emphasizes the enhancement of competencies and confidence to be able to initiate conversations on mental health while reducing stigmatization and encouraging the recognition of common mental health problems;
  • Facilitated group sessions;
  • Adapted to the veteran community and to those who support it;
  • Offered in partnership with the Mental Health Commission of Canada.
Care for caregivers
  • Provides information on operational stress injuries (OSIs), the effect they may have on caregivers and the strategies and for facing them;
  • Offer of support to caregivers who support a loved one who suffers from an OSI;
  • An online resource which may be accessed individually;
  • In partnership with Veterans Affairs Canada, the Royal Ottawa Healthcare Group and the federal government.
Transition Workshops
  • Workshops offered for couples or individually on the psychosocial aspects of the transition from military life to civilian life.
