Montreal Region's 2018-19 Military Community Guidebook

This guidebook is mainly aimed at the Montreal Region military community. It contains a lot of information on the services offered at the Saint-Jean Garrison.

Psychosocial resources and services available for recruits and/or officer cadets

  • Chaplain services are available at the Saint-Jean Garrison. The Saint-Esprit Chapel is located in Room G-101 of the Megaplex, at the Saint-Jean Garrison. To reach a chaplain, call 450-358-7420. For emergencies outside business hours, a duty chaplain is available and can be reached by calling 450-358-7099, pressing 0 and asking for the emergency padre (duty chaplain).
  • Religious services: On Sundays in the chapel, a bilingual Catholic mass is held at 9:00 a.m., followed by a protestant service at 10:30 a.m. There is also an Anglican service on Tuesdays at 3:00 p.m.
  • Sentry services: Recruits can contact the chaplains to find out which military members are in the sentry program. Sentries are fellow soldiers acting as peer supporters who offer a receptive ear to other military members with a non-punitive goal of providing support.
  • Canadian Forces Member Assistance Program (CFMAP): The CFMAP is a voluntary, free and confidential service provided by the Canadian Armed Forces to help military members (Regular Force members, all classes of Reserve Force members and cadets) and their families who are dealing with issues that could affect their personal well-being and/or performance at work. Recruits and officer cadets are also eligible for this service. You can contact the CFMAP, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, at 1-800-268-7708 or visit the CAF website for further information.

General Information
Montreal International Airport:
Phone: 514 633-3333 / Toll-free: 1-800-465-1213
Website: https://www.admtl.com/en
Plan for at least a one-hour drive if you are travelling by car (e.g. taxi). The traffic can be heavy and can easily make the travel time longer.

There could also be road closures owing to major road work between the airport and the Saint-Jean Garrison. Therefore, if possible, check your itinerary on Google Maps or the mobile app Waze before you leave. You can also check the state of the roads you need to take at http://www.quebec511.info/ or using the Québec 511 mobile app.

Taxi services

OPTION 1 : Call a taxi with the Montreal airport dispatcher

To get a taxi or limousine, go to the Arrivals level, near the central exit located across from the luggage area, where a dispatcher will help you. You do not need to reserve in advance. All active taxi and limousine companies at the Montreal–Trudeau airport have an operating licence and must comply with the terms and conditions. On an exceptional basis, if required, Aéroports de Montréal can call on other companies.

Impaired mobility travellers: Some adapted taxis are available at the Montreal–Trudeau airport. Ask the dispatcher for one.

Methods of payment: Visa, MasterCard and American Express credit cards are accepted. Some drivers accept American currency, but provincial regulations stipulate that clients pay in Canadian dollars.

Taxi rates: Meter-based rates in all directions, except downtown. Minimum price, $17.

Limousine rates: Fixed rates. Approximately $40 to downtown Montreal.

[2]  Beware of the upward fluctuation of the tariff during peak hours due to traffic.

OPTION 2 : Call a Téo electric taxi using the mobile app

Téo (Transport Écologique Optimisé) taxi service is available at the Montreal–Trudeau airport. You need the mobile app in order to be able to call a Téo taxi. Please go to the Téo information booths at the domestic and international arrival areas.

Téo’s rate regulations are the same as those for traditional taxis coming from the airport.

For further information : http://teomtl.com/

OPTION 3 : Call an UBER using the mobile app

Uber drivers are now available at the Montreal–Trudeau airport.
*Watch out for rate increases by Uber drivers during peak periods.

Here are the steps to follow to call an Uber from the airport:

Open your Uber app on your smart phone and select the option you want. To benefit from the best rates, opt for uberX. If you are travelling in a group or have a lot of bags, it would be a better idea to call an UberXL, which can carry larger loads. Opt for an UberSELECT for a higher-end ride.

Go to Door 6. The pick-up area is located at Door 6 on the Departures level, located one floor above the Arrivals. Look for your driver outside. If you have trouble finding your driver, call him using your app to confirm his location.
