Second Language Training (SLT)

Has your family been posted to a community where the language is unfamiliar to you? We can provide you with Second Language Training (SLT).  

Our SLT learning resources and tools will allow you to increase your language skill and may help you: 

  • integrate into your new city, 
  • add a new language skill on your resume 
  • to help your child(ren) with their second language learning 
  • prepare for a posting outside of Canada

For all family members in Canada, SLT is available by: 

  • Teacher led instruction in class - Traditional classroom setting at your local MFRC with a national curriculum by Language Research Development Group (LRDG) 
    • To learn French, the curriculum is Pour l’amour du français  
    • To learn English, the curriculum is For the love of English 
  • Online 
    • Option #1: Family members may be able to request a license from their local MFRC to access the self-directed online Rosetta Stone program. Family members may not get access right away.
    • Option #2: Family members may be able to request access to online self-directed learning. The national curriculum for learning French is LRDG’s Pour l’amour du français and For the love of English for learning English
    • Option #3 Family members may be able to attend an online LRDG based program classroom, which is led by their local MFRC.
  • Tutoring  
    • Tutoring may be available for one-on-one language instruction on a case-by-case basis.

For all family members living outside of Canada, SLT is available by:

  • Online  
    • Option #1: The Family member may be able to request access to a license from their local SLT Coordinator to access the self-directed online Rosetta Stone program. There are 24 languages available.  
    • Option #2:  The family member may be able to request access to online self-directed learning. The national curriculum for learning French is LRDG’s Pour l’amour du français and For the love of English for learning English. 
    • Option #3: The family member may be able to attend an online LRDG classroom with a teacher. 
  • Tutoring  
    • Tutoring may be available for one-on-one language instruction on a case-by-case basis.
