Rear-Admiral J.R. Aucherlonie
2019 - present

Rear-Admiral Bob Auchterlonie was born in Cumberland, British Columbia and was fortunate to play with the very successful Comox Valley Chiefs throughout Minor Hockey, which included 2 Provincial Championships in 5 appearances. He enrolled in the Canadian Armed Forces on completion of High School forgoing the BCHL with his teammates, but made the jump to the CIS with the Royal Military College Redmen as an 18 year old.  While at RMC, he played all four years on the Varsity Redmen graduating in 1991 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Economics and as Captain of the Varsity Hockey Team. Throughout his Naval Career he has continued to play on bases and unit teams throughout Canada and the US, including winning the 94/95 Men’s National Championship with the CFB Esquimalt Tritons.  He has been fortunate to pass on his love of the game to his sons who have played competitively in minor hockey and continue to play junior hockey today.  RAdm Auchterlonie has coached competitively for the past decade with great coaches and mentors throughout Canada and is confident the game is in good hands.  His playing days are now limited and mostly involve teams with the name “Old” in them; Old Sailor, Old Generals, Old GO/FOs, but he continues to be a defensive liability and occasionally scores on old goalies.  In 2018 he was appointed as the CAF Hockey Patron by the Chief of the Defence-Staff and is honoured to represent and serve the CAF as we grow Canada’s Game.
