What is emotional support?
Virtual Emotional Support
Emotional support is a non-clinical service that may include crisis intervention or some other form of supportive intervention and follow-up. It begins with the counsellor listening to your concerns in order to get a better understanding what support is needed. Depending on the individual needs, the Counsellor will work with you to develop a support plan that you are comfortable with, followed by a discussion on next steps. This might take the form of information, referral, emotional support and/or problem solving.
How can FIL help me right now?
The Family Information Line (FIL) is a confidential, personal and bilingual service offering information, support, referrals, reassurance and crisis management to the military community. FIL serves Canadian Armed Forces members, Veterans and their families- immediate and extended.
Whether you are located within Canada, the U.S. or overseas, the FIL team is only a phone call or email away. The Family Information Line offers emotional support that is tailored to your needs. Some families call our team when they feel stuck in a particular challenge, are searching for ways to address a particular situation or are experiencing difficulties in coping and adapting to a new experience. FIL’s goal is to support you as you experience unique challenges on your journey as a military family.
We have recently extended our service to offer scheduled sessions - an opportunity for families to make an appointment to connect with the same counsellor at a time convenient to you. This new option also provides the choice of either phone or video session when connecting with a member of the FIL team, for a single or multiple sessions.
