Veteran Family Program
The Veteran Family Program Coordinator is now offering virtual release support!
The Shilo Military Family Resource Centre (MFRC) in partnership with Veterans Affairs Canada and Military Family Services is proud to offer the Veteran Family Program (VFP). The VFP is a national program that supports medically releasing Canadian Armed Forces members, medically released Veterans, and their families. The services and resources of the VFP are designed to help ease the transition from military to civilian life and support the health and wellbeing of families during this time.
To achieve this, the VFP provides enhanced information and referral services and transition-focused core programming. These specific transition programs, resources, and services, fall into five categories:
• Mental Health
• Family Transition
• Early Engagement and outreach
• Information and system navigation
• And Family Support
Transition core programming includes:
• Mental Health First Aid for Veteran Community
• Care of the Caregiver
• Financial Workshops with SISIP
Additionally, to support some gaps in service, the VFP extends access to the Military Family Services Program (MFSP) to individuals medically released from service along with their family members to ensure that supports are in place and available to support their transition from military to civilian life.
We understand family members vary from person to person and want to be inclusive of whomever the member of Veteran defines as their family. Examples of family members include (but may not be limited to) parents, spouse/common law partner, children up to and including those 18 years of age (including step-children), and/ or other dependent relative(s) of the medically released personnel. They are available to the member and their family including spouses/partners, children, parents, and any other dependant relatives.
Further, these services are accessible at all 32 Military Family Resource Centre’s across Canada, as well as through the Family Information Line (FIL) (1-800-866-4546).
